HOW TO USE AUTOMOTIVE SPRAY PAINT
A careful process gives the cleanest touch-up. Always read the product label first and test the colour and spray pattern on a hidden area or scrap material before working on the vehicle.
-
PREPARE THE SURFACE
Wash and dry the area. Remove wax, grease, rust and loose paint. Lightly smooth damaged edges with suitable fine abrasive paper, then wipe away dust with a clean, lint-free cloth. The surface must be dry and free of contaminants. -
MASK THE AREA
Mask surrounding panels, trim, glass, tyres and any area that should not receive paint. Work outdoors or in a well-ventilated, dust-free place away from flames, sparks and heat. -
SHAKE AND TEST
Shake the can thoroughly according to the label instructions. Hold it at the recommended distance and spray a short test pass. Check colour, coverage and spray pattern before continuing. -
APPLY LIGHT COATS
Hold the can upright and keep it moving. Apply several light, even coats rather than one heavy coat. Overlap each pass slightly and allow the recommended flash-off time between coats. Avoid spraying into one wet spot, which can cause runs. -
DRY AND FINISH
Allow the paint to dry as directed on the label. Do not wash, polish or wax the area until it has fully cured. If the product system calls for a clear coat, apply it only after the colour coat has reached the correct stage.
SAFETY
Use protective gloves and eye protection. Aerosol paint is pressurised and flammable. Do not puncture or burn the can, do not inhale spray mist, and keep it away from children, food and ignition sources. Dispose of an empty can responsibly according to local rules.
COLOUR-MATCH TIPS
Vehicle paint can vary by model year and production batch. Confirm the vehicle paint code whenever possible. A screen, photo or name alone cannot guarantee an exact match.
